Chilufya Mutale

Chilufya Mutale is a Zambian entrepreneur. She is the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of PremierCredit, an online microlending platform operating in Zambia and Zimbabwe. She is an experienced Chief Experience Officer (CxO) with a 10-year working history in the financial services sector. 

She is an expert in fintech start-ups, inclusive digital financial services, consumer lending and SME finance. She specialises in human-centred product development, risk-based pricing model designs and implementing programs supporting customer financial literacy and inclusion. 

She was born in Lusaka, Zambia, to a family of eight. Raised by her father, an entrepreneur, she caught the entrepreneurship bug.  Chilufya attended St Mary Secondary School, Lusaka. For her secondary education. She then proceeded to the University of Zambia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Natural Resources Management in the year 2009

In 2011 she obtained a postgraduate diploma in Project Management from Cavendish University. She has certifications in SME Finance and Risk Management from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.

Her career started as a branch manager with an International microfinance company— FINCA Zambia. There, she found her passion for women-led businesses. She moved through the ranks to eventually become the Head of Customer Offerings (Retail Banking). 

She left FINCA to become the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Experience Officer and Executive Director at ExpressCredit. She became the Director, Financial Services Consultant of BlueOrange Finance Group, in March 2019. Months after, she Co-Founded and became the CEO of PremierCredit Zambia.

She foresees a trend in the African Fintech space where more challenger banks spring up and scale. She said, “hopefully, we see another spectacular and groundbreaking acquisition by another international tech giant, as we saw with Paystack and Sendwave.”
